The finger puppets are handmade by shepherdesses and peasant women in the highlands of Peru. While the shepherdesses herd their sheep, they knit these dolls, thereby doubling their income. The peasant women knit especially during the times when there is little to do in the fields. They both get a good price for their product. This direct trade at a fair price effectively combats poverty.
