Productinformation

Dahlias are wonderful flowers for picking and provide an explosion of colour in your borders, allotment and even in pots. Dahlias flower extravagantly from summer right the way through to the first frost. They provide food to various pollinators and the flowers stay beautiful for a long time, both in your garden and in a vase. Plant the bulbs in damp, nutritious soil in a sunny spot starting in mid-May (at least 6 hours of sun a day). You can also start your dahlias in a pot or tub of potting soil indoors between March and late April. This means the plant will be big and strong enough by the time it is ready to be planted outdoors. Dahlias are then less vulnerable to slugs who love their young shoots, and will bloom earlier. Dahlias should be watered regularly, particularly when planted in pots and the taller varieties should be supported. Dahlias bloom for an extended period: if you cut off the blooms that are past their prime, and you will be able to keep enjoying new flowers. Dahlias won’t survive the winter outdoors and the bulbs should be dug up before the first frost. They can then spend the winter in a sturdy carboard box covered in sawdust or scrunched-up newspaper in a dry, frost-free location. This pack provides a summer’s worth of flowers with bulbs from three dahlia varieties: Dahlia Kiev (light pink), Dahlia Larry's Love (pink-white) and Dahlia Japlou. Tip: when your dahlias have three pairs of leaves, you can snip out the top until just above the third pair. This will encourage the plant to create more side shoots which, later on, will produce more flowers.
